WPP, a global communications giant, relocated to Rose Court in Waterloo, London, as part of their strategy to consolidate operations into a centralised campus. The Rose Court refurbishment, part of the broader WPP London Campus 3 project, was designed to foster creativity and collaboration across its agencies. The new office spans 175,000 sq. ft., offering state-of-the-art facilities with a strong emphasis on sustainability and employee wellbeing. Planning was conducted by BDG architecture + design, while Structure Tone handled the fit-out, ensuring that the office space aligned with WPP’s vision for a dynamic and cohesive working environment.
As part of the comprehensive refurbishment, WPP aimed to create an inspiring, nature-driven workspace that reflected their commitment to sustainability. Plant Plan was brought on to provide both interior and exterior planting solutions that would enhance the aesthetic appeal, improve air quality, and contribute to the wellbeing of employees. The design needed to incorporate greenery across multiple levels, from the reception areas to the café and external terrace, integrating biophilia seamlessly into the modern office environment.
Plant Plan delivered tailored planting installations throughout Rose Court, contributing to the overall biophilic and sustainable design:
Reception Areas: Feature clusters of Ficus microcarpa Nitida, Strelitzia, and Aloe Vera Barbadensis were arranged in elegant copper and gold planters, adding striking natural elements to the entrance space.
Café: Floor-standing and table-top plants, such as Ficus Lyrata, Monstera, and Kentia Palm, were strategically placed to enhance the atmosphere, with planters in materials like matte copper, gold, and cool grey to complement the interior design.
External Terrace: Olive Trees, Pittosporum, and Trachycarpus were planted in natural concrete planters, creating a serene outdoor space where employees can relax, with plant heights ranging from 1300mm to 2500mm.
Additional Spaces: We supplied planting for banquette seating, soft seating areas, stairways, and pillar spaces, incorporating plants like Aglaonema Maria, Dracaena Song of Jamaica, and Ficus Elastica.
All installations were designed to align with the building’s layout, supporting the biophilic design goals while enhancing both the interior and exterior aesthetics.
The planting installations provided a welcoming, biophilic environment at Rose Court, improving air quality and contributing to employee wellbeing. The feedback from WPP was highly positive, particularly praising the transformative effect of the planting across the various spaces. Employees appreciated the improved ambiance in both interior and exterior areas, including the external terrace, which became a favourite relaxation spot.
“We had our first visit from one of your technicians last week, and he has received superb feedback from various individuals at Rose Court. The planting has truly transformed our spaces.”
The collaboration with BDG architecture + design and Structure Tone ensured that the planting fit seamlessly into the overall refurbishment. Together, the project achieved WPP’s goal of creating a dynamic, inspiring workplace that supports creativity, sustainability, and wellbeing.
