The Tate Modern is Located on London's South Bank in the former Bankside Power Station, designed by Gilbert Scott. It is renowned for its modern and contemporary art, from early 20th Century to the present.
The Tate regularly hosts high-profile events and this presented an incredible opportunity to create stunning planting displays, challenging the production team to design and install highly bespoke handmade features within strict time constraints. The goal was to transform the gallery’s basement into a visually captivating space that enhances the overall atmosphere of the event.
Our team undertook the task of designing and creating nearly 150m² of handmade moss mounds, filled with over 280 live tropical plants. In addition, we constructed more than 50 floor-standing displays and around 12 metres of trailing planting. Each element was meticulously crafted to fit the unique setting of the gallery’s basement, ensuring that the planting features seamlessly integrated into the environment.
The logistics of transporting and installing these elaborate displays were carefully coordinated to meet the tight deadlines. Our production team worked diligently to ensure that each planting feature was not only visually stunning but also sustainable and well-maintained throughout the event.
The result was a breathtaking transformation of the gallery’s basement, which captivated attendees and enhanced the event's overall experience. The lush greenery and intricate designs of the moss mounds and displays created a striking contrast to the gallery's modernist architecture, leaving a lasting impression on guests.
The success of this project has established a strong relationship with the gallery, opening doors for future collaborations and opportunities to showcase our innovative planting designs at similar prestigious events.
