The Carriage House is a destination in its own right within the grounds of Adare Manor. Its Terrace Restaurant offers sumptuous dining with panoramic views over the golf course and walled gardens thanks to full height glazing on one side. Plant Plan was approached to help blur the boundaries between indoors and out with creative planting in this area.
Adare Manor
Former seat of the Earl of Dunraven, Adare Manor dates back to the 17th century. Set in rolling parkland, this magnificent gothic building has been extensively restored and is now one of Ireland’s most luxurious five-star hotels, voted the number one resort in Europe and fifth in the world by the Condé Nast Traveler.
The Brief
Scope of Project
This large, open plan space required a bold approach to planting. We worked closely with a designer to successfully deliver the client’s vision and create an amazing scheme which hinged on the inclusion of some large trees to help zone the space and create intimacy for diners.
Several 3.5m tall Ficus Nitida trees were installed in oversized terracotta pots, which needed some advanced logistics – firstly to arrange delivery of the trees and all equipment to Ireland, and secondly to get the trees manually into the room and hoisted into position in their individual pots. Some smaller trees and individual potted plants were also included for added interest. Finally, we installed hanging planters along one side of the restaurant, which are overflowing with mixed foliage and trailing ferns. The overall effect is of an elegant yet relaxed space that envelops diners in nature on all sides, for a truly captivating experience.
