Trachycarpus Fortunei (Chusan or Windmill Palm)

Trachycarpus Fortunei (Chusan or Windmill Palm) If your searching for a tough, frost resistant palm that will survive tough British winters then the tropical looking Trachycarpus is among the best available.  Hardy down to -20°c once established it is a native plant of central China. With a trunk covered in a shaggy coat of fibrous hair and multiple large fan-shaped leaves it brings a lot to any location.  Ideally suited for planting outside restaurants or hotels where instant impact is required it will grow up to 12m tall if planted in the ground. This plant is also very pollution resistant and tough. Capable of surviving in high traffic environments such as next to busy roads that would kill other more delicate species it is ideal for use in town centre locations where pollution levels are above average.
