How To Care For Your Plants

Now that you have acquired your plants, you will want to maintain them correctly in order for them to present their full benefits and have a long life.

Below we have listed some of the most common indoor plants and how to maintain them regarding light exposure and watering.

Jade

Light: Jade Plants will require moderate light rather than a higher indirect light level. Water: Requiring only a low amount of water, this makes Jade Plants brilliant companions to Snake Plants.

Ensure that you allow the soil to completely dry out between watering intervals.

It is easy to prune Jade Plants to keep them in a nice compact shape – be sure to cut away dry or dead leaves and stems.

Ferns and Polka Dot Plants (in terrarium)

Light: Requires low to indirect bright sunlight is the ideal location for these particular indoor plants. Water: Will require moist soil that is drained with plenty of organic matter.

Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia Plants are a great ‘beginner’ plant that last for many years.

Light: This particular plant requires ambient lighting. Water: Dieffenbachia Plants will need a lot watering during the summer months – the soil will need to be moist but not wet. Ensure that you feed your plant every other week from March throughout October, and include complete liquid food into those watering periods.

Take precautions to being reducing its water intake during the winter months and no fertiliser.

Succulents

Light: They will need roughly a daily dosage of indirect to direct sunlight. Water: Adopt this general rule: add water when the top half-inch of the soil feels dry. Bear in mind that the majority of succulents only need to be watered once every 7-10 days and to moisten the soil only, but not soak it.

Cacti

Light: Cacti will need four hours of daily direct sunlight. Water: Cacti will need to be watering once a week, again, add water when the top half-inch of soil feels dry. During the winter, Cacti will need little to no water.

Snake Plant

Light: Dubbed one of the hardest plants to kill, the Snake Plant prefers to be exposed to bright light and can adapt to full sun exposure. Water: Make sure that you let the soil dry out completely between watering and reduce the amount during the winter months.
